Wheelchair Ramp FAQs

information? Email us!

Q. What's the difference between modular and portable?
A. Modular ramps are usually Steel or Aluminum sections that bolt together. Modular ramps can be moved and reconfigured, but they are quite heavy and are not considered portable. Portable ramps are easily picked up and moved to another location.

Q. If the ramp is for my personal home, does it have to meet ADA Code?
A. A certain amount of common sense should apply, but no they do not have to meet the ADA guidelines in a private home.

Q. Why should my ramp meet ADA Code?
A. Safety. The code is written to keep you safe. If you build it outside of the code guidelines, you put yourself and others at risk of injury.

Q. What is the recommended ratio for the steepness of a ramp?
A. For every one inch of height you need 12 inches of ramp. Make sure you figure where the ramp will end to determine your overall rise. If the ground is dropping away from the building it may be difficult to calculate this.

Q. Do the Modular Ramps meet building codes and ADA requirements?
A. Yes, if they are installed correctly.

Q. How will I know if a ramp will fit my space and needs?
A. Our qualified Accessibility Specialist will perform a FREE site evaluation to suggest the best options for your needs and location, with no obligation.
